Hannah prayed and said,
‘My heart exults in the Lord;
my strength is exalted in my God.
My mouth derides my enemies,
because I rejoice in my victory.
‘There is no Holy One like the Lord,
no one besides you;
there is no Rock like our God.’

‘[Deacons] are to proclaim the gospel in word and deed, as agents of God’s purposes of love. They are to serve the community in which they are set, bringing to the Church the needs and hopes of all the people. They are to work with their fellow members in searching out the poor and weak, the sick and lonely and those who are oppressed and powerless, reaching into the forgotten corners of the world, that the love of God may be made visible.’
[Declaration from the Ordination of Deacons]
Ordination Gifts
As a number of people have asked about ordination gifts, here are a few options. To be clear, there is absolutely no obligation to give me anything, but I am considering this as my alternative to having a wedding list!
Contribute to my vestments! I’ll be getting things like stoles, collars, funny bibs to wear under my clothes for the collars, maybe even some preaching bands, etc etc... Please use my PayPal for this!
Contribute to my library! I’m especially keen to get a few commentaries for my preaching (I really like these) and some liturgical resources. Please use my PayPal for this!
Something small that you think might be a nice treat for the first six months of curacy, as I settle in (novels! poetry! wine! nice food vouchers! something you think will remind me of you! I don’t mind, help me make sure I unwind)
Please pray for all those to be ordained this Petertide, among them
Hannah Swithinbank
Please pray also for Rev. Dr Melanie Harrington, and for the people of St Philip and All Saints (The Barn Church) and St Luke’s, Kew, among whom Hannah will serve as Assistant Curate.
